About two weeks ago, my step-father introduced me to a recently exposed scandal regarding anthropogenic global warming (AGW). For the first two weeks there didn't seem to be any coverage on the subject, but it seems that the story has very recently begun to break. I'm sure many of you have heard much about the topic already, but for those of you who haven't, I feel compelled to share this unsettling news. Although not entirely Z related, I thought it appropriate that supporters of our beloved machines should know of the recent events, now coined the "Climategate Scandal". Many of us choose to remove emissions systems, and in doing so may be displaying your already educated opinion on the subject; but if any of you currently feel there is a real threat to the Earth from your "carbon footprint", I believe you should rest a large portion of your fears after learning what was really going on behind the curtains of the big "global crisis" researchers and supporters. Here's are a few excerpts from an article I wrote on the subject; followed by some links for your reading pleasure... "Several emails found in the leaked files, including one from Professor Michael Mann, one creator of the famed “hockey stick graph”, to Dr. Jones, discuss the agenda of discrediting certain research journals who's findings diverge from the findings of the CRU [Climate Research Department]. It seems the would-be scientists of the CRU spend an unproportionate amount of time attempting to discredit and destroy other research journals, to the time spent creating their fresh original scientific evidence. The IPCC and CPU seem to believe they possess the authority to determine what research is accurate and what research is not; and some of the leaked emails seem to indicate that their only criteria for the legitimacy of environmental research is correlation with their own. This is an obvious unprofessional scientific tactic used to further a hidden agenda, and in the process of being revealed, has quite-possibly left a stain on the scientific community as a whole. ... Several emails included in the leaked files openly admitted to the act of deliberately skewing scientific data in order to add to the illusion of a warming trend, and the covering up of the 90's end of said warming trend. One such example, an email from Jones to Mann & others (dated November ’99) reads:
I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (i.e. from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline. Mike's series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with
data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.

Phil ... Again, is this a tactic you feel appropriate coming from a leading authority on climate change? Has our society become blind to the idea that not only politics, but science can be run by agenda seeking, money hungry individuals? I for one believe these people have severely disgraced the scientific community, and have committed a travesty against the observing public; who has listened to these cries for action since the organizations launch in 1972. ... Hopefully you realize that these organizations are getting funding (and lots of it) for the research they’ve been doing over the last several decades: a very clear motive for the entire operation." I'd like to add that the "trick" discussed in the quoted email has been suggested to refer to deliberate skewing of data used to compute the "hockey stick graph". For those of you who don't know, this graph is what first initiated the idea that we as humans have been solely responsible for the change in climate since our increase in emissions during the industrial revolution. Now that it's creator has been "caught with his pants down" so to speak, it seems that we have been spending countless dollars fighting against an invisible threat proposed through the use of fraudulent data.
